報徳二宮神社の境内でひっそりと佇む、金の二宮金次郎像。
どこか異彩を放つ像にも感じますが、実はこれには理由があります。
それは、なんとこの銅像が、
かつて東京の
八重洲BOOKセンターさん
にあった銅像だったからなのです。
The golden statue of Kinjiro Ninomiya stands quietly in the precincts of Houtoku Ninomiya Shrine.
The statue may seem somewhat unusual, but there is actually a reason for this.
The reason is that this statue used to be a statue of Kinjiro Ninomiya at the Yaesu Book Center in Tokyo.
長年、八重洲ブックセンター本店入口で「理想の読書人」のシンボルとして親しまれていた像でしたが、東京駅八重洲周辺の再開発に伴う本店営業終了に伴い、２０２３年に報徳二宮神社へ寄贈されました。
銅像は台座から185㎝もある大きな銅像です。ぜひ境内でご覧になってください。
For many years, the statue was a familiar symbol of the “ideal reader” at the entrance of the Yaesu Book Center main store. However, it was donated to Houtoku Ninomiya Shrine in 2023 when the main store closed due to the redevelopment of the Yaesu area around Tokyo Station.
The statue is a large bronze statue, standing 185 cm from the base. Please come and see it in the precincts of the shrine.
ちなみに、銅像前に横たわる大きな石柱にも秘話があります。これは、かつて境内にあった鳥居の笠木の部分でしたが、関東大震災で崩れてしまった為、現在はベンチの役割をしながらも、今も境内で私たちを見守ってくれているのです。
Incidentally, the large stone pillar in front of the statue also has a secret story. It used to be the shade tree of the torii gate that used to stand in the precincts of the temple, but it collapsed during the Great Kanto Earthquake, so it now serves as a bench and still watches over us in the precincts.
